New tour photos up, sights set on the west

July 6th, 2009

Midwest check. East coast check. Now it’s time to focus on the west coast dates July 18-21 with a Denver date thrown in for good measure. I put some photos up of the tour thus far. Witness! Happy to announce the last run will be with Trespassers William and The Theater Fire respectfully. Two of my favorite bands. Very much looking forward to it.

Dallas music awards

June 5th, 2009

As I pick out a tuxedo and have my driver ready the car to attend the Quick music awards tonight in Dallas for their annual awards show (I have the distinct honor to be nominated for one) I also found out about a couple of Dallas Observer nominations.

As luck would have it, I’m nominated for Best Solo Act and Best Instrumentalist. And however much a popularity contest it is. It is truly an honor to be recognized by your peers, especially at home. This music community is after all a family of sorts. And I very much look forward to these award shows because in many respects they are our family reunions. It’s the one night we get together and drink under the same roof real hard for 3 hours and pat each other on our fatter-than-last-year asses.

For those wishing to cast their vote you may exercise your democratic will by voting at http://www.dallasobserver.com or text 61721 w/ DAL11 and DAL130

….so many bad asses in this latest batch of nominees. It’s a privilege to be among them.

New Tour Dates Added

June 1st, 2009

Check the tour page for the dates. See you out there.

Hunting Song featured on David Byrne’s website

May 9th, 2009

Don’t know how this post will work out as I am writing from my phone from the backwoods of Mississippi but here goes.

In the fall of last year I traveled to New York to visit David Byrne’s installation “playing the building”. My friend Jason told me about it and I had seen the videos on the website and had to see it/hear it in person. So with field recorder in hand my friends and I went and visited the installation and I recorded each “note” of the organ to document the installation that was soon going to be taken down. I took the sounds back home, mapped it out, tweaked some things and recorded an instrumental version of “Hunting Song” from the new record. It is currently being featured on David Byrne’s website. ..I’m extremely honored. Here is the link. (It can be found under recordings) http://tinyurl.com/abo2f

(Performed by Jesse Chandler and myself)
